Lancaster Monument Company was established in 1940 by Roland Roggensack at 334 W. Elm Street in Lancaster. The business has remained at the same address throughout the years.
In the early years, all aspects of the monument manufacturing process were done by hand. The cement mixing was also done manually. In 1962, Robert Meyers purchased Lancaster Monument Company from the Roggensack family. Mr. Meyers identified the need for increased space, so he expanded the original facility to include a small manufacturing plant.
Walter & Rosemary Yager purchased the business from Mr. Meyers in 1966. They worked together to expand the family business, and Lancaster Monument Company continued to thrive. In 1972 the Yagers invested in the company by purchasing modern equipment so that the monument layout work would not have to be done entirely by hand. Later in the year, they purchased more advanced sandblast carving machinery.
Walter Yager passed away in 1990, and Rosemary continues to be the branch manager of the company. She is now married to Neil Kuenster, who also helps with the business. Rosemary has been fortunate to have the same employee, Herb Muntz with her for the past 20 years. Currently they are again up-grading to computerized layout and design cutting equipment. They specialize in personalized hand-engraved etchings and custom design work.
For over 60 years, Lancaster Monument Company has taken pride in serving the residents of Southwest Wisconsin and Eastern Iowa.
"We would like to thank you for the kind service you gave our family during both of our losses of our daughters. Both the stone and the planter are beautiful. Lancaster Monuments is lucky to have a kind-hearted, talented person like Herb working for them. Thanks again."
